Eighty-Eight...

© January 6, 2021, the Griot Poet

Nineteen eighty-eight,

Thirty-three years ago in the last century,

The last time a Republican Party’s nominee for president,

WON the popular vote, and the electoral college,

Of course, this was aided,

By political snake oil salesman Lee Atwater,

And the racist Willie Horton ad,

Designed to frighten white people,

To vote against their interests,

And go back to their sitcoms,

Decades before the Internet and phone apps,

Became our primary distractions,

“Pappy” Bush wasn’t

The happy

Warrior of “kind and gentle” conservatism,

His authorizing it made him as racist as the rest of them,

Just possessing more political finesse,

Than this hot, spray-tanned orange mess,

Beyond his name, incapable of a correct sentence or cogent statement,

A damaged man that was the evolutionary apotheosis,

Of “wink and nod” genteel conservatism,

It was eventually going to morph into fascism:

Whether Keystone Cop,

By a brutish slob: this is a coup by “the father of lies,”

On the day the electoral college is to be certified,

The former GOP supported the mechanics of republics,

As long as they were winning electoral results,

I repeat:

It’s been thirty-three years since,

The “gang of Putin,”

WON both the popular vote,

And the electoral college,

They have literally,

In the 21st century,

Put two presidents

In the Oval Office,

Of which a plurality of our citizenry,

Did NOT vote for,

Or, give its consent to be governed by them,

And the antediluvian electoral college,

It isn’t replicated anywhere else on the PLANET,

The ideal of democratic republics worked for them,

Until it didn’t,

Then like spoiled children,

At the playground,

They’re kicking around dust and marbles,

Overturning tables,

Not to throw thieves out of temples,

But because THEIR thief didn’t win it!

All votes that don’t maintain their power and privileged relevance,

Are to them illegitimate,

Eighty-eight,

Is the underground symbol,

Of white supremacy,

The letter “H” is the eighth letter of the alphabet,

A creative way to say “Heil Hitler,”

Richard Spencer,

Leader of the Alt-Wrong movement,

Gave us the English translation of Zieg Heil:

“Hail Trump. Hail our people. Hail victory!”

It’s not a mystery,

That fascist who can no longer legitimately,

Win elections,

Would find eighty-eight reasons to resort to violence.

On the sixth, on the twentieth, and hereafter,

To all my sane friends and lovers of democracy: be careful,

This maniac has awakened the Kraken,

This narcissist MUST become irrelevant,

The way Germany defeated fascism,

Are they were held accountable,

Merrick Garland:

Be apolitical,

That is the skill you bring to a battered Department of Justice,

The Capitol is in LOCKDOWN,

A woman who supported the coup was shot and died from her wounds,

By the end of the day, we added three more,

A fifth Capitol policeman added to the score,

And the clown who lit the match on Twitter,

Sends tepid messages, trying to distance himself from the fire he lit,

FOUR YEARS, and a string of bodies later, they finally block him,

Up is not down,

Left and right are opposite directions,

There are reality and fantasy,

Truth and fiction,

Right and WRONG,

Justice wears a blindfold and holds a balance: do justice!

Hold these seditious traitors accountable!
